THE SCHOOL DANCE
for 5-25 players

The School Dance Star-crossed lovers' orbits literally collide at a school dance..png

A question from a teacher prompted me to dig into a box (yes, a literal one, of paper) to hunt for a monologue to type up for her. I'd been meaning to get to the pile of old writings for some time now, rework them etc. and so this was a win-win situation, a good motivator! Thank you, Dear Anonymous. Anyway, I thought I'd share the idea if anyone needs it.

The prompt was: "Write a monologue using five props a character/a actor is to bring in to show who they are."  The objects may have been assigned, the character too, cannot remember. I do recall wondering how to connect them all...

So, not one object, but five. Looking on it now as an educator and playwright, I suppose this was a way to give a younger writer (I was 16 at the time) the opportunity to have enough to say. Especially in a first draft. I recall wanting to try to link them together. My character was a young man. Drawn from a hat? I cannot recall.

There are a few more of these coming if you're interested. Reach out and let me know.
